Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to study the influence of information communication technology on administrative performance of public secondary schools in Kenya

Design/ Methodology/Approach: In the research methodology, the paper adopted the desktop literature review method (desk study), which involved a vast and detailed review of studies and research addressing the effects of drug abuse on the performance of university students focusing on Students in Nigeria Public Universities and Universities in Kenya. Simultaneously, an in-depth research of the top keywords related to the same topic was conducted in various databases. As a result, the study was purely qualitative, drawing its findings from secondary sources of information. After the filtration was done, the third step involved the selection of fully accessible publications. Reduction of the literature to only fully accessible publications yielded specificity and allowed the authors to focus on articles related to the top keywords. Finally, the analysis was done using content analysis.

Findings: Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is based on learners demonstrating the ability to apply the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they acquire as they progress through their education. Despite initial resistance, this curriculum is now under implementation in Kenya after a pilot study conducted across counties. Education reform is a necessary process because it affords a country an opportunity to revisit, revise and appraise its education system and curriculum periodically. However, the implementation of a new education system is not without its challenges and requirements from not only the students, but also the teachers and parents, for it to succeed. The purpose of this study is therefore to establish the CBC activities that require parental involvement, parents’ opinion towards this expectation, teachers’ perceptions of CBC and the challenges they experience in the implementation of the CBC.

Contribution to policy and practice: The study concluded that the application of ICT in any field is has the positive effect of improving the standards from a lower level to a high level. In this case, application of ICT in schools improves the standards of the school from one level to the other.

Originality/Value: The knowledge gained from the findings of this study will enable teachers and parents, to join hands in one accord to device interventions that will lead to higher school performance and assist in making the secondary schools in become competitive despite the marginalization of the County. This study will also contribute to the body of knowledge which can be used as a reference material by future researchers. The study will also identify gaps and seek to fill the and more so areas for further studies related employee turnover in public secondary schools which other scholars will be able to advance and improve on the literature
